Arcolin, 14/1105

Dalglee Hahlsh
In the year since the Endymion disaster, the group’s fortunes had waned, with them falling for a strip-mining job on Arcolin for “high wages, low subsistence” that turned out to be the reverse.

When the Bwap Dalgee Hahsh approached them with an offer of a job, most were only too eager. After all, a quick air/raft spin to orbit to find out why a labship hadn’t reported in for a week should be a doddle. Quin Feng and Nevada held out for rather better terms, and insisted on a contract.

Clutching their Lysani Luncheon Vouchers and full of plans to slope off with the ship if they could, they headed into orbit and docked with the Calendula, choosing the air/raft bay near the bridge.  Entering without difficulty - despite a floating corpse outside - they started exploring.

Clearly something was wrong, the ship was largely dark and completely deserted. As they searched the rather spooky vessel and discovered the astrogator’s hand computer, a picture emerged. Dodgy combat drug research on kidnapped people had been going on; some kind of animals were loose aboard the vessel; the astrogator had  been a spy for Butler Chemicals and had planted a bomb to disable the laboratories; the drugs had mixed into a terrible cocktail when the bomb went off. Two bodies had been discovered but no survivors.

Reaching the bridge, they accessed the command systems and changed all the access codes. Locking all the doors, they set a link to Nevada’s handcomp to allow them to lock and unlock remotely and be alerted if doors opened unexpectedly. All the ship’s systems looked functional from the bridge end.
Just as searching trashed but empty rooms was becoming tedious, a large wolfish creature - completely hyped on the drugs - jumped Quin Feng as they emerged from one, clamping onto her arm and inflicting a minor wound. Jesse Wales dropped prone and shot it past the stumbling legs as Dr Wombat struggled to squeeze past to get a shot, Feng unfolded her build-in blade and shanked it deeply and then Col Nevada shot it with his gauss rifle at point blank range.

This sharpened their alert a bit.

On reaching the galley, the first living human appeared, a scientist, who approached Feng and leaped on her, trying to claw her apart and bite her. After a variety of attempts to subdue her, Wombat used his stunner and she went down. Tying her up, they locked her in a locker before proceeding.

On the far side of the kitchen a hideous discovery awaited - twelve members of the crew hung on meat hooks in the meat fridge. Several had missing limbs and all had been chewed on - by human teeth.
